Humanity is Disgusting!

Seriously, I sat down to write a post and nothing was on my mind other than the single act of a lone human being to coming to the aid of another. When a person puts themselves in harm’s way to save a life, we deem these heroic, right? Take for instance, firefighters and policeman, we all know at a moments notice these men and women will go to far lengths to save complete strangers. They completely disregard their own lives and safety. And if you are reading this and have had your life saved or that of a loved one rescued you personally know that you are one of the lucky ones.

On Sunday morning at 5:40 AM, on 144 th st & 88th Rd. in Jamaica, Queens New York, a man did just that; he stuck his neck out in not only an act of kindness, but an act of selfless love for his fellow-man. He saw a woman being mugged by another man. This man could not stand to see another inflict pain upon this lone woman walking and  he took action!

Yes, this person was named Hugo Alfred Tale-Yax, he was 32 years old and he is my hero! Why? This man acted upon his instincts and little did he know that he would interject himself into what was about to become his last endeavour of his life. Mr. Tale-Yax, native of Guatemala was out of work. He in fact, was named as a homeless man, but he kept busy by doing odd jobs. He was trying to be an active member of society. Did I mention he was my hero? Notice how I throw that title around? A true hero comes to the aid of another without thinking of the consequences to his person. Mr. Tale-Yax could be anyone, but he isn’t.

Once Mr.Tale-Yax went to aid the woman in peril, he was subsequently stabbed several times in the chest by the woman’s attacker. While this ensued the woman ran away in the other direction. The knife-wielding attacker ran away too, and that left my hero, slowly hitting the ground as he too tried in vain to get away. Soon Mr. Hugo Alfred Tale-Yax perished. But he did not die a lonely death; for at least twenty-five pedestrians passed by his motionless body and it is reported that only 1-2 people actually called 911!  Disgusting and I shake my head. Many touched him and at least one took a picture of him. Perhaps they all thought him a hapless drunk, and did not know what to do; I’ll give that much. But my checks and balances are always to ask myself immediately would I want to be treated that way? If I saw a dying man I would try to help; it’s just me. I can’t be alone in this? Am I?

What if any would you have done? Can we teach and preach love to our fellow-man in church, schools, and tv? Have we become a nation where we can give to hurricane and earthquake victims but not to the lowly hero in town?  Why did this man of great substance die in vain? Why did he have to die at all? Was his number up? Most likely his fate is sealed in what we learn from his selfless act of love for his fellow-man. We need to continue to keep his story in the forefront of everyone’s mind. This is for world-wide consumption, not just for those in New York!  We need to change this people. We need to take time to care for people we do not know. This country needs to change the mind-set of “I want to get mine”! When ever you do something or think of something, please think of the homeless man with the funny name, Hugo Alfred Tale-Yax and pay homage to his selfless act of humanity. He is different from many~he extended a hand to his fellow-man and in turn lost his life.

For all those that strolled by, took pictures, and even laughed as blood pooled on the sidewalk, shame on you. You know who you are and I hope you are as sick to your stomach as I am! You shamed your city, your country and now the world!  For whom ever finally got the fire department there, thank you, it was too late but you had a small feeling in your heart that drove you to try to change that situation.

For me and in my house, I will continue to tell the story of Mr. Hugo Alfred Tale-Yax and his life changing event. I hope to raise children and surround myself with people who love and care and just give a damn!

  1. Hello, Mary~ 😥

One of the christian lessons I learned yesterday was that it will be the love of our fellow man that will mark us as sheep and give us eternal life through Christ. One day, because of my beliefs, I will see that man who gave his life for a stranger (sounds like what Jesus did, too,) standing next to the Lord looking at all those who could have helped him, but didn’t, give answer to the Judge.

I call him a hero, too. The ultimate of one for paying the ultimate of prices for his good deed.

    • Hi auntdeedee, Sadly it seems that if I put up a post w/Casey Anthony or Caylee Anthony in it~my readership soars through the roof! My heart while aching for Caylee, aches more now for Mr. Tale-Yax because I feel it is a commentary on real life~and maybe Caylee’s case is isolated b/c of Casey. Humanity is us! I pray that he(my new hero) is currently standing next our Lord and helping & teaching us to have respect for life and all that that encompasses!
Thank you and keep the faith!
