Identity

My thoughts on identity.

Identity, it’s a source of self. Identity defined is simply being who or what a person or a thing is.

But wait, it is also a close similarity or affinity to something. So much lately has been in the news about

one’s self and our human attachment to an identity. I’m guessing people have been thinking way

outside the box!

Sense of self is important to us; it is where we find our personal security. It is for our sense of comfort.

Lately though, the extreme examples of finding one’s identity have been exhibited for all to see. Human

beings are creatures that crave identities because I think that people gravitate toward each other in

seeking out themselves. This is why we have clubs, support groups, and otherwise genres of t.v.

programming.

For example, taking reality t.v. into account and the types of people who watch them are perhaps

as “on the edge” as those on the shows and somehow the viewer is striving to see themselves.  The

subject matter of changing genders or assigning a gender to ourselves is an interesting one. While there

are people out there somewhere whom are choosing to be this or that, there still are as many more

born to be someone or something else. These people time and again, say they knew for themselves

they were not the appropriate gender, or knew that somehow they were not comfortable in the role

they had been living Or that they sought out love from an undisclosed gender for

example.  Or still yet, that they find themselves somehow being a “misfit” of sorts.

Identity is also something that fits you like a personal glove:  be it your job, or your life course

and sometimes, as we very recently have witnessed the racial identity of a person. One can identify with

the life that one is living. With job loss there is an identity loss, perhaps due to circumstances we squash

all that we want to be for what we have to be. Now, these subject matters bring me to understanding

and the compassion part of it to this essay. I just say let live because although I may not like a

particular thing that is happening  to someone else, I cannot control it nor can I possibly imagine what

that person is feeling  or the freedom they get once expressing themselves~ I just can’t “identify” with

it!!

Identity is where we call ourselves comfortably home and the loss of it, or the real discovery of it may be

exactly what one needs to think way out of the box on this one~

Your Thoughts on Casey Anthony~Take a poll!

Casey The Trial is Starting Monday at 9 A.M.

The parting last words of Judge  Blevin Perry, Jr. were that he has a jury of eleven and while he will continue with the prospective fresh fifty tomorrow, he would’ve liked to have had more seated at this point. He continued to say that the trial will be starting with whatever they have come Monday morning at 9 A.M.

After eight days of jury selection, it has ended with twelve actually being seated.

One prospected juror was most likely shocked as he was admonished and assessed a fine for contempt of court for violating 3.830, which was not to discuss the matter. He was on the cell phone talking to someone about trying to get out of jury duty. He was fined no jail time but a stiff fine of $450.00, the juror agreed to pay the fine in monthly installments of $50. 00 per month by the 10th of each month. If this person does not pay for the contempt of court charge he will be arrested and will serve jail time!

This judge is setting his rule in his court room. Further news, according to the Orlando Setinel about 50 passes per day will be given out to the general public. The general public can begin lining up at 5:30 A.M. for the first come first serve tickets. They will follow strict rules once in the court room. The trial is expected to last anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks.

The family and friends of Casey Anthony will be able to sit in a section behind her but the media has the entire first rows as well as the upper balcony of the courtroom.

There are two areas that will be designated free-speech zones where protestors can assemble to protest Casey Anthony.

Well, at the time of this writing, court is on lunch recess but will return around the 1 P.M. hour for continued juror selection.

Will continue to post any new developments as this case moves forward toward Monday morning.

Drew Peterson Hearsay Arguments Today

Finally, after long anticipation the hearsay arguments are here. While Drew Peterson need not be present in the court room today, this case is a high-profile one and the interest spans those who have had brushes with domestic violence, or have been victim of murder and th media. It will be argued by the defense that this evidence is prejudicial and that it should not be allowed due to its unconstitutionality. But at this point in time the Illinois Appellate Court,  in an effort to be transparent, will broadcast live via the internet and tv feed.

This will be groundbreaking and historical in the State of Illinois. The Third District Appellate Court will let us see the inside of the arguments, of which is extremely rare. While this is not the criminal case being tried itself, the prosecutors are there to bring forth an effort to have at least 13 hearsay statements included  in the criminal trial of Drew Peterson.

Peterson is 57 years old and is currently being held and is charged with killing his third wife Kathleen Savio in 2004, and while he is a person of interest/suspect in his fourth wife Stacy Peterson disappearance, he has not currently been charged in any way regarding that case. Drew Peterson is in the Will County Jail in lieu of a $20 million dollar bail.

More on this story as the proceedings develop.

Drew Peterson/ Casey Anthony Cases

It’s rather amazing that even though I managed to get thousands of readers by writing my opinions on the cases of  Drew Peterson and that of Casey Anthony, I chose to take a step away from both of them.  While their cases are continually in the media on some level or another; it may be a small quip mentioned in the newspaper of even a small glimpse on a  CNN newscast, they feel like they both may have happened yesterday! I think this is what truly is known as finding closure. It is that tiny little nagging thing that is in the back of your mind that helps you relive these atrocities over and over again. It is the response we have that says we have a conscious, and even deeper; a heart!  These cases have touched raw nerves and we are hard-wired to ask for answers or further to demand them. It is now a game of cat and mouse for the lawyers. They will toy with the jury that is closely listening to evidence while we will sit here and listen to the case in progress and again the cases will bring out the emotions and public opinion. So from my vantage point as I see my readers again and again click on stories that were written a full year or more ago, the relevance of these cases are still there. So the winter will pass and the spring will come and we will watch, and we will blog, and we will hope and this writer especially; desperately wants to contribute to the matter of public opinion and fairly and justly our courts will serve. We all know what the best outcomes for these cases are, or rather what we’d like them to be.

So when that springtime comes, my keyboard will be blazing with a blow-by-blow scorecard of sorts on the Casey Anthony case and the very dramatic Drew Peterson! Here’s to hope you’ll be tuning in and commenting. And this writer will hope then and only then will we as a collective group of society with conscious and heart gain a small piece of closure. I know that once both of these cases are actually made official and sentencing done, I’ll be free to find other cases that will reach my heart and hopefully yours too!

Miley Cyrus Pulling A Brittany?

Say it ain’t so, Hanna Montana is growing up! She turned in to Miley Cyrus~ wow~ that’s unheard of isn’t it? And now the controversy rages on; some say anyway. To my daughter who is slightly younger than the real Miley she is glad that Miley has shed, as she put it, that baby image for who she really is. This girl is an obvious talent and she is a performer who has staying power. She has a great voice and can actually act, even if the lines written for her in some of the things she has been in have been lame! I think we will see Miley for many years to come.

Some early childhood stars were either told they could not change,or don’t change because of fears they would never work again, and well we have seen where all of that has gotten some kids (look at the cast of say Different Strokes, or say even The Brady Bunch) these kids did not morph into the next generation of things to come. While things were way different in different eras, and today there is a  lot more that a child star can do~it is ultimately up to them to further their career.

I am a mother who believes in children’s programming and puts the brakes on the the TV, Dvd’s, the computer, facebook, the internet….should I go on and when it is time to put on the brakes I do! Period. No giving in! When things crossed the line I simply said no. Hard feelings were had and I even got the occasional “I hate you” mutterings, but in the end all of my kids lived on, and they got the doses of hard realities when they should have. I am a firm believer in too much is too much and less is most likely better. My kids saw wholesome programming, but never went to an actual “rock concert” until High School. The ‘tween scene is way too much for my taste! I think that it is utterly ridiculous for a twelve-year-old to go to say Eminem or Brittany. I even think that twelve year olds need not get Bieber fever either. Listen we had Donny Osmond! We were all in love, his pictures were on every girls’ walls and when he sang we all thought truly he was singing directly at us! But we did not “drag” our parents out to a screaming stampede~my mother would have said no and I am certain that once the tears were over I would have gone on.

I think too much is being marketed to the ‘tweens group all together, it is in this writers opinion that Miley Cyrus has her place and that parents have theirs. I think that it is high time that if parents don’t want Miley Cyrus to become a woman and sing and perform like one, okay. That group have their right to disagree with me. I think if they are the parent of a ‘tween and they do not like a performers’ image, clothes or sound-mom, dad time to say NO! Parents the ball is in your court it is up to you to play your game well!

The Van Der Sloot Saga

Back in November of 2008 I wrote a post entitled Van Der Sloot #1 Slime Ball!, in that post I described Joran van der Sloot as a slime ball; a living the fast lane-brat with anti-social behavior at best, with a constant protector in his lawyer father. I mentioned in that post how I thought in my opinion, on just the previous history that we were all aware of, he needed to be removed from the streets. I thought that it would behoove the authorities to keep him imprisoned before he was apt to hurt yet another human being.

Unfortunately, he is now in the Lima Peru prison on the charges of murder of a young Peruvian woman. He is seen on tape in a casino and seen entering his hotel room in full interaction with Stephany Flores who was found in van der Sloot’s hotel room two days later dead.

The past week has yielded a series of interesting things regarding Joran van der Sloot. The lawyer that came forward to defend van der Sloot has resigned stating that he is receiving death threats. Joran’s mother finally came forward and is talking; like a song bird in fact!  Joran van der Sloot’s mother claims now that his mental health has been in decline since the Holloway case and that she also stated  he was going to be going into a mental institution just before this  all happened. Joran’s father is not here anymore, he has passed away from a  heart ailment. And while he cannot protect him anymore, I am sure that his very closest of friends have spoken with his mother and gave her the idea that she could try to build an insane defence for her son.  Joran’s fate finally looks sealed.

He long-line of intertwined wrong doings and seedy activities peppered with several murders and possible suspicions of two more missing girls in Columbia bring Joran to say he was tricked, and that his rights were violated without due process in Lima! He told a judge on Monday that he was coerced into making a confession and now a judge will have to determine whether or not that Lima authorities violated Joran van der Sloot’s rights by Wednesday.

I wrote in November of 2008 that slime had a way of oozing itself into the cracks of society and spreading itself along the cracks until those cracks were filled and that it would continue to ooze on until the next one was filled. This young man and his anti-social behavior from  the Holloway case, Dutch confession tape, Thailand prostitution tape, possible extortion charges with U.S. FBI, and now to this charge of murder the slime did keep oozing. This brat man-child living in the fast lane could not help himself it appears. It appears to me that he wanted what he wanted and he wanted when he wanted it! This is a scary individual.

It is this writers hope that this guy remain tightly enwrapped in the Castro Castro prison system of Peru never to see the light of day unless it is to answer more charges of murder, kidnap, acts of enslavery/ prostitution, and extortion. It would be an outrage if the judge in Peru rules in van der Sloot’s favor on Wednesday. At this point, Joran is crazy alright~ crazy like a fox and I hope it won’t work for a minute!

Humanity is Disgusting!

Seriously, I sat down to write a post and nothing was on my mind other than the single act of a lone human being to coming to the aid of another. When a person puts themselves in harm’s way to save a life, we deem these heroic, right? Take for instance, firefighters and policeman, we all know at a moments notice these men and women will go to far lengths to save complete strangers. They completely disregard their own lives and safety. And if you are reading this and have had your life saved or that of a loved one rescued you personally know that you are one of the lucky ones.

On Sunday morning at 5:40 AM, on 144 th st & 88th Rd. in Jamaica, Queens New York, a man did just that; he stuck his neck out in not only an act of kindness, but an act of selfless love for his fellow-man. He saw a woman being mugged by another man. This man could not stand to see another inflict pain upon this lone woman walking and  he took action!

Yes, this person was named Hugo Alfred Tale-Yax, he was 32 years old and he is my hero! Why? This man acted upon his instincts and little did he know that he would interject himself into what was about to become his last endeavour of his life. Mr. Tale-Yax, native of Guatemala was out of work. He in fact, was named as a homeless man, but he kept busy by doing odd jobs. He was trying to be an active member of society. Did I mention he was my hero? Notice how I throw that title around? A true hero comes to the aid of another without thinking of the consequences to his person. Mr. Tale-Yax could be anyone, but he isn’t.

Once Mr.Tale-Yax went to aid the woman in peril, he was subsequently stabbed several times in the chest by the woman’s attacker. While this ensued the woman ran away in the other direction. The knife-wielding attacker ran away too, and that left my hero, slowly hitting the ground as he too tried in vain to get away. Soon Mr. Hugo Alfred Tale-Yax perished. But he did not die a lonely death; for at least twenty-five pedestrians passed by his motionless body and it is reported that only 1-2 people actually called 911!  Disgusting and I shake my head. Many touched him and at least one took a picture of him. Perhaps they all thought him a hapless drunk, and did not know what to do; I’ll give that much. But my checks and balances are always to ask myself immediately would I want to be treated that way? If I saw a dying man I would try to help; it’s just me. I can’t be alone in this? Am I?

What if any would you have done? Can we teach and preach love to our fellow-man in church, schools, and tv? Have we become a nation where we can give to hurricane and earthquake victims but not to the lowly hero in town?  Why did this man of great substance die in vain? Why did he have to die at all? Was his number up? Most likely his fate is sealed in what we learn from his selfless act of love for his fellow-man. We need to continue to keep his story in the forefront of everyone’s mind. This is for world-wide consumption, not just for those in New York!  We need to change this people. We need to take time to care for people we do not know. This country needs to change the mind-set of “I want to get mine”! When ever you do something or think of something, please think of the homeless man with the funny name, Hugo Alfred Tale-Yax and pay homage to his selfless act of humanity. He is different from many~he extended a hand to his fellow-man and in turn lost his life.

For all those that strolled by, took pictures, and even laughed as blood pooled on the sidewalk, shame on you. You know who you are and I hope you are as sick to your stomach as I am! You shamed your city, your country and now the world!  For whom ever finally got the fire department there, thank you, it was too late but you had a small feeling in your heart that drove you to try to change that situation.

For me and in my house, I will continue to tell the story of Mr. Hugo Alfred Tale-Yax and his life changing event. I hope to raise children and surround myself with people who love and care and just give a damn!

A Post To Marinade Dave

I just left a little message to Marinade Dave today~ words of encouragement~blogger to blogger to let him know that there are people out here who write content sometimes daily, but most times not, that are filled with the truths as we know them, and the sarcastic deep setimented feelings we may have for the current subject. I left him a message to let him know that despite any accusations that may be out there if we stay true to ourselves and our written words, we will be okay.

A blog is a blog, when does it become more?  In the case of little missing Caylee Anthony, it became a story that grew into more than just a story, it was all about the cute missing little girl. It was also about the general public becoming vested emotionally. It was the chilling thought that thank god it was not us, or it hit us all like a ton of bricks because she was one in a recent parade of the missing and the found dead! Caylee’s story is about sadness. It is about caring grandparents that got side-swiped by something so astronomically repulsive they still don’t believe it!

The Caylee Anthony story made us all remember that it is not just about the creepy bad-guy or the boogie man~it was about a mother too soon with pressures mounting because too many her age have no responsibilities and are out just having fun! It is about parents in my age generation taking away and bearing more and more responsibility for our kids, Casey’s age. It’s life moving too fast for those who don’t have their feet on the ground; or perhaps it is about parents not recognizing problems in their young teens lives and letting it go out the window untreated, and unhealed.  No matter what it really is about, there is a toddler life gone, a young mother rotting in prison, and an endless dollar amount awaiting those living in the state of Florida.

If life imitates art, then of course there’s the upcoming book and movie that will be starring MarinadeDave~ the cool laid-back blogger who took Caylee’s loss emotionally, and his opinions about Casey Anthony and her illustrious staff of professional defenders, that no one can afford, right into the court-room!

I hope that this case can move forward and that it will be determined that the current accusations being strewn about are most untrue. Blogging to me is an expression of my ability to craft together sentences in a pleasing way for others to read. My intent at times is to make you smile and even laugh, but mostly it is to connect on a larger level with people who think like me. So blog away my friends, just always remember the old saying…..sticks and stones will break my bones and words will always get you into some kind of trouble!! Stay in the fight Marinade Dave and fellow bloggers, it’s your right.

Poor Indigent Casey

Well this past Friday, Judge Strickland has officially declared Casey Anthony indigent for costs. This simply means she does not have the money to pay for her attorneys. Casey could now be appointed a public defender, but she has a team of high priced “experts” in position, and the two lead attorneys state that they will stay on this case. They state that they will continue to do this case pro-bono.

According to Jose Baez and Andrea Lyon  they have been pro-bono this whole time, and that only the expenses of Andrea Lyon have incurred. $11,954.00 have already been paid out that the public and the court is knowledgeable of. We are aware that $90,00.00 has been issued to Baez alone.

There is quite a bit of legal pandering and ploys surrounding this case. The ditching of monies and the transferring of monies is a known way to appear “indigent” or broke. Perhaps it comes at this time another reason that Cindy and George Anthony have let their home go into foreclosure. (Perhaps the pair should not have taken that cruise and paid bills instead!). ABC News and 48 Hours News show have paid fees for family photos of the Anthony’s to the tune of $200,000.00 ! Some obtained funds of $60,000.00 from Larry Garrison and some monies totaling of $100,000.00 of fees paid from unknown sources; that’s a lot of money and where did the rest go?

Hopefully we will not hear about the movie and book deals that were alledged at one time to be impending~it would be a horrendous attack of justice if the state of Florida pays to have this trial only to lose out to TV and publishing houses funneling the money (which I assume would be somewhat illegal), It is in this writer’s opinion that if one can pay as much lawyer fees that have already been paid for, chances are she may not be quite indigent!

On a small other note~ the jail is currently looking into Casey Anthony’s possible violation of jail rules & regulations. There is allegedly some 258 pages of written correspondence between Casey and another inmate housed in the protective custody area of the jail. This violates all rules and poses a security risk.

Will update as more information is known.
